In my search for a good 1 euro home to purchase, I’ve visited multiple communities. I have documented most of these experiences. Click below if you’d like to see the current list of communities with available 1 euro homes either currently or up and coming.
How to Purchase
If you are just joining the 1 euro home initiative, you probably have questions about how to buy one for yourself. Each community will have a slightly different process, but here you will find some general information about purchasing 1 euro homes.

North/Central Italy
Borgomezzavalle, Piedmont
I visited Borgomezzavalle in the spring of 2020. Though I didn’t take a tour inside the 1 euro homes… Technically I got a good idea of the types of property, just by walking through the streets. Borgomezzavalle is actually a series of 5 communities on the hillside in north Piedmont. Really cute for a mountain experience, but daily life could be challenging. Still the architecture was awesome!
Cantiano, Le Marche
I visited Cantiano in the summer of 2020 during our families 1 euro home summer experience. Only 20 minutes away from Gubbio, a larger well known community in Umbria, Cantiano only had 1 property still available which we found and toured on the exterior.
South Italy
Zungoli
I visited Zungoli in the Summer of 2020. I arrived in town and was given a personal tour of all the newly available 1 euro homes, assisted by the mayor and his staff.
There were 11 properties available, but even Zungoli receives requests in the 1000’s. Most likely they still have some available for sale.
Bisaccia
Bisaccia is another community located just east of Naples in the inland hill area. I visited Bisaccia briefly, to meet a real estate agent in the area. I did not see any 1 euro homes due to the community waiting for the current pandemic to pass before offering the properties for sale.

Taranto
Taranto is the first full-fledged city to join the 1 euro home ranks. I’ve visited Taranto in the past as a tourist but have not seen the 1 euro homes in the historical center. The historical center is a small island by the way.

Cinquefrondi
Cinquefrondi is the first Calabrian city to offer 1 euro homes. The city is located in the midpoint between the two seas adjacent to the toe of the boot of Italy.
I intend to visit, but have been waiting to collaborate with another youtuber when they are allowed to travel in Italy.

Sicily
Sambuca di Sicila
Having a successful first round of 1 Euro homes where they received more than 100,000 responses they auctioned off their properties to the highest bidder.
In late 2020 it is expected that they will offer homes again under the name 2 euro homes, but it is not yet underway as of 11/25/2020
Salemi
Salemi was the first community to attempt to offer 1 euro homes, but failed to move ahead due to decisions regarding community projects needing to be finished.
In late 2020, Salemi announced they would be offering 1 euro homes which I covered previously, but have not yet visited in person.
BIvona
Bivona was first official 1 euro home community that I visited. Though it was on a Sunday afternoon and it began to ran as I arrived to the town which dissuaded me from touring the community on foot.
Since then Bivona listed properties for sale on their community website which now seem to be no longer available.
Cammarata
Cammarata is famous for offering houses for free! The only stipulation is that you have to reside in Cammarata. Though beautiful, upon visiting this hillside community, It was noticable how daily life would be a bit more challenging in the upper historical neighborhoods.
Mussomeli
Mussomeli was my first experience seeing a 1 euro home from an inside perspective. I set up an appointment with the local real estate agency tasked with the responsibility of the property tours and the transfer of property. In addition, they take the time to show you the superior homes (higher price tag) in the same neighborhoods. These homes typically have less structural damage and can be move in ready.
Nicosia
I know little about this community. It was announced by a third party renovation company that Nicosia had 1 euro homes. My theory is that they personally located people that wanted to be rid of their properties and organized it without involving the community. But if it is really for 1 euro, great!
This is an unconfirmed theory. It is not on the adjacent map.
Itala
Itala is very close to Messina and I know very little, but they do seem to be actively selling 1 euro homes

Termini Imerese, Sicily
Initially the 1 euro home initiative was offered to residents of Termini Imerese. I went and toured the area but received confirmation by email that they never ended up organizing the actual sale of property there.
